MPR News: School Dance Rules Videos

Minn. schools have different ways to address the issue of suggestive dancing – here are videos produced by students at Como Park and North St. Paul High Schools

valentine’s day…

seems like we are in for a warmish and sunny valentine’s day.  valentine’s day i could take or leave, but warmish and sunny?  yes, please!

plus, it’s nice to have some valentine’s day-specific plans.  kieran’s irish pub is sponsoring SlamMN!’s annual erotica slam.  must be popular because by the time i called to reserve a table, none was left.

the website advises that the event is not for the young or the sensitive.  i’m intrigued…

Was your absentee ballot rejected?

Via the Chaska Herald, I stumbled across this list of names of people who had absentee ballots rejected in all counties in the state.

I voted absentee and am kind of bummed I’m not on the list, actually.

And am I the only one who looked through the names of folks in my county to see if any of my neighbors were listed?

How many cats can you own without being labeled crazy? Dolls?

I enjoy cats. But more than two cats makes me anxious.

From the Star Tribune:

It took three hours for about 15 masked workers and police officers to remove 118 cats from a couple’s reeking home in the Lowry Grove Mobile Home Park in St. Anthony on Tuesday.

Another dozen or so cats couldn’t be captured because they were hiding in mounds of dolls and debris in the trailer and will have to be live-trapped, said Keith Streff, senior investigator of the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley. One cat escaped and three were left with the couple, the limit permitted by city ordinance.

Okay, so that’s a LOT of cats. But maybe this is even more crazy:

They also collected hundreds of dolls, some of which were found in the refrigerator, he said, adding that their bedroom and bathroom were so packed with dolls that workers couldn’t open the doors.

It’s one thing to collect dolls. But when you’re keeping them next to the OJ and yogurt, you might have a problem.

Are you still looking for something to do on Valentines Day?

Well then you should attend the VD09 party in lovely Northeast Minneapolis:

Art, Beds, Beer, Chocolate, Dancing, DJ, Films,
Furries, Special Guests, Wine & More

Saturday February 14th, 2009
7:00 PM – Midnight, or Whenever

Northrup King Building
1500 Jackson St. NE Minneapolis, MN 55413

Why (Not?)
We’re sick of crappy VDs

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t experience a single good Valentines Day until I was married. Typically the holiday consisted of me doing things like sitting home, but I remember one year I accidentally smashed some fingers. Oh, that was a blast.

This party looks like a good time. They even have guest servies, Dj Danny Sigelman (music), and a bunch or artists to help you take care of your head.

What is this.. VD09 thing?
VD09 is part art show, part party and all sorts of debauchery. All we ask is that
you bring your sexy self, some singles for tipping hard-working servers & an
open mind. We will bring the funk.
Do I need an invitation?
Hells no – consider yourself invited. Bring your hot friend.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. The night, the drinks and the chocolates are on us. Well.. on our
sponsors, technically. Thank our sexy sponsors by buying their goods & services,
What should I wear?
Dress sexy. Suits, high heels and furry costumes are encouraged. If you don’t
own anything sexy, come as you are..

So there it is!

Ok, I can’t really guarantee you’ll get smarter, prettier, or laid. Though, with all your awesomeness; I have to think that it’s not only possible; it’s downright probable.

See you there!

Art Sled Rally at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis

This weekend was waaaarmm! But luckily not so warm to melt ALL the snow and ruin the 2nd Annual Art Sled Rally at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis.

Here’s a pretty great video I found of the sleds and sledding

Anybody go? Favorite sleds?

Holy Smokes! Price Of Cigarettes Is Going Up Soon

The federal excise tax on a pack of cigarettes may likely be increased by 62 cents to $1.01 a pack if President Obama signs the State Children’s Health Insurance Program(SCHIP) legislation passed by the House today. This will accomplish a couple of things. First, nearly four million more kids can be qualify for the coverage (7 million have it now), and second, the higher cost per pack is going to convince some younger smokers to quit, or not start smoking.

A Proposition To Party

Have you read the Tractatus Logico-Dessalophicus or the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus?

If you have you may very well ask “Can Rap be really be saved?” Can anything?

These are the types of questions Marsh may ask Dessa of Doomtree at the Spiral Bound Release Party where Dessa is sure to wax philosophical about her book, life, anesthesia, and the written vs. the spoken word.

I know you’re sick of winter and ready to get your party on so you should go out Saturday evening and catch some awesome music from the likes of the lush voiced Jeremy Messersmith with guest appearances by Aby Wolf, Cecil Otter,Paper Tiger,John Jodzio, and Shane Hawley
