B&J’s Free Cone Day: TODAY

benjerrys.JPGEvery year Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream celebrates by providing free ice cream cones. Today, my friends, is that day.

From their email announcement:
“It all began 30 years ago, Ben & Jerry scooped up free ice cream all day to thank the community for supporting them in their first year. Now it’s an annual tradition at many of our scoop shops around the world.”

According to the site, all but two of our local B&J’s are participating (not Shakopee or MSP Airport).

When I was in Boston there was a Ben and Jerry’s right next to my apartment, and the line would extend for blocks (plural). I never did see the need to spend three hours waiting in line for a free scoop of ice cream. It’s not like paying $3 for some ice cream is unreasonable.

But, I suppose it’s more the principle of the thing.

We showed up at the B&J’s kiosk at Eden Prairie Center at 8:30pm, only to find 7 teenagers standing around eating pizza, saying that they had closed at 8:00. Nowhere on the B&J or EPC websites did it say that location closed at 8:00, so I assumed their hours were the mall hours. Still unclear if they actually closed early or if those are their normal hours. The manager gave us key fobs worth 10% off for a year or something. She sounded like she gave out a lot of those.

My girlfriend sent off a note to B&J’s. Hoping we’ll get some coupons.
