Free Tacos This Afternoon

I don’t know how many people around here were paying attention to the World Series anyway. I know enough to know that Boston swept Colorado and the Series is already over.

More importantly, Taco Bell is running a promotion that has something to do with stolen bases and free tacos. Yadda yadda yadda, between 2pm and 5pm today, you can get one free crunchy beef taco from Taco Bell. One per person. As long as you’re in line before 5pm, you get yours.

Or you can donate your Taco. Cause why on earth would you want to eat that crap.

I happened to be traveling in the suburbs between meetings Tues. afternoon, and there were three Taco Bells along my route. I stopped at each for a free taco. (But to be a good sport, I also bought a Chili Cheese Burrito at each location, to put in my freezer, for other days.)

I had not eaten a Taco Bell crunchy taco in many years, because they always seemed over-priced and not that good. That’s the impression I came away with again on Tuesday. In particular, the ground-beef part tasted mostly just salty, not really beefy.

I suppose Taco Bell chose a Tuesday for this promotion because Taco John’s has its long “Taco Tuesday” weekly promotion of discounted tacos. (There aren’t that many Taco John’s around in the ‘burbs, but in downtown Mpls. the Taco Johns on the skyway system does a booming business.)

I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve eaten at The Bell since discovering Chipotle. And those were only because that’s what my co-workers wanted to do for lunch.

I’m not huge on Taco John’s, either, but my co-workers (who are all from Iowa) LOVE it.
