Spa Bella Casa

So for Katie’s birthday and as a treat for our crazy wedding we went to Spa Bella Casa off Hwy 100 and Industrial Boulevard. We opted for the 90 minute couples romantic day spa package. I was hesitant at first since it was well easily the price of half a commuter bike (you can see where my mind is), but eventually I decided it couldn’t hurt to try it once and if we go into debt we’ll just never do it again. :)

Overall the experience was pretty relaxing for the both of us, although Katie got into some crazy misadventures involving her hair in the women’s lounge. I’ll get to that in a bit.

First of all this place carries itself with that ambience of blue skies and hippies-turned-Greco-Roman-worshipping capitalists. There was relaxing music, and it looked like we were in a building that the ancient Romans would have built if they were still around. To be honest the music and scenery was relaxing.

They first took us to the mens’ and women’s lounges. The men’s lounge has lockers with robes, slippers and towels. After you’re dressed in your robe you can wait in some comfy leather couches while watching TV until the massager retrieves you. Nothing relaxes you more than hearing about the Stem Cell Veto.

Our massagers retrieved us and escorted us to a room with two massage tables, a whirlpool and some sparkling juice and left us alone for 20 minutes. The whirlpool was pretty nice. The water was very-very soft, almost oily… I think it was infused with bliss and happiness. It was fairly relaxing, but in the end it was really the massage that was the focal point of the adventure.

This was my first professional massage and it was excellent. I really wish I had done something super strenuous the day before hand so I could have shown up with super sore muscles, because they would have been in complete bliss after this. That hour went by very-very quickly.

After the massage we were walked back to our respective lounges. Since I’m fairly quick at getting ready, I decided to take a look around the lounge. There was a hot tub (like the kind you find at a fitness center) and sauna. I went to the hot tub, and realized the water was way too hot and it’s totally summer. I’m not a big hot tub person. I decided instead I’d go to the shower. The shower wasn’t anything fancy, but as I massaged shampoo and conditioner into my hair, I was thinking… why couldn’t they massage this stuff into my hair for me. The nice thing about this shower is it’s a lot roomier than the shower I have, so I took a long relaxing shower and degreased.

After showering I changed into my clothes and waited in the lobby for my wife. After some time I received a distress signal from her involving a round brush that got completely stuck in her hair and had to be cut. So I sent the front-desk woman on a mission to deliver scissors. Outside of that, I think Katie and I had a wonderful time there. As great as our service was, we weren’t expecting to have to give gratuity. We’re new at the whole massage thing though, but willingly gave it. It seems these days, everything requires gratuity. We gave 10% since that’s what was sort of suggested, but I think giving $5-10 per massager would have been sufficient. Not sure about that, and maybe people here can clarify.

Also, if there’s more affordable… massage places within the city, I’d be interested to hear about peoples experiences there.

Spa Bella Casa is one I haven’t been to but it sounds like you had a fabulous time! I normally patronize The Day Spa in Edina, which is pretty close by.

In my experience, you pay more for a massage at a spa than say, with a therapist who’s connected to a chiropractor’s practice. That being as it may, the ambience of a chiropractor’s office isn’t quite up to par with a spa. Either way, your muscles should end up being just as happy.

Also, I HIGHLY recommend this: if you take a vacation (particularly somewhere tropical), get a massage. It’s one of the most relaxing things you can do for yourself/your wife.
