Come help blow out the Flame

It’s been a fun week, but as with all things, the festivities must come to an end, and how better to end it than with a party!

Closing night celebration for the Flaming Film Festival is tonight, starting at 7pm with the open submission reel. Who knows what we’ll see?

Afterwards, eat, drink, be merry, or maybe be Mary, at the Suburban World Theater, as the curtain is rung down until next year. Drop a couple of bucks in the donation box to make sure there is a next year, if you can. The bills will come due soon!

Well, they’ve sold me!

The Flame burns for one more night

Tomorrow night, Wednesday, 31 May 2006, is the closing night celebration for the Flaming Film Festival. If you haven’t been to any of the screenings yet, don’t miss the final night, followed by the closing night party. It all takes place at the Suburban World Theater in Uptown, a beautiful venue. The screening is a reel of short films, all five minutes or less, submitted by….ANYONE! That’s right, who knows what we’re going to get, isn’t the anticipation wonderful?

Lisa Ganser and her posse of volunteers have been working their butts off for this festival, and they’re finally going to get a chance to relax. Until the bills come due, that is. So come drop some bills for this last screening, bring a little extra for the bar, and a little more extra to donate so that there will be a Flaming Film Festival 2007.

Two Gay Guys to Try to Enlist in Roseville Today

I heard a blurb on MPR this morning that two members of Soulforce were going to attempt to enlist at the Roseville National Guard recruitment center today. They had a handful of folks prepared to protest.

My question is, unlikely though it may be, are they ready to actually enlist?

Field Trip: Midtown Global Market

Having heard that the Midtown Global Market was already open, ahead of it’s “Grand Opening” (which is Saturday, June 3, 10 am – 4 pm), I decided to stop in yesterday. I also took photos, if you’re curious to see what it looks like inside.

I’m disappointed that there’s nothing outside the building to indicate that the market is open. Seriously, I’ve driven by it a number of times, knowing it was already open, and could not detect any sign of activity inside. So no wonder business has been slow.

But, empty as it was, I loved it.

Final days of the Flaming Film Festival

Today and tomorrow are the last days of the Flaming Film Festival, so let’s give them a rousing send-off with a couple of sold out shows.

The only venue tonight is the Suburban World, with a showing of Fat Girls at 7pm, and an added screening of Pick up the Mic at 9pm. The Friday night screening of this documentary about queer hip hop artists sold out, so the festival has added this one, giving everyone an opportunity to see it before the festival ends.

Tomorrow is the closing night celebration, starting at 7pm, with “Killing Rock Stars — Music Video meets Open Reel”. Anyone who submitted a five minute short early enough got put on the reel for all and sundry to see. 90 minutes of shorts, with a music video theme, will be screened, and there will be prizes given to audience and staff favourites. Afterwards, stick around to celebrate and close out the festival with Lisa and her gang.

I caught a hot tip on where to get these t-shirts, and I finally picked one up from Gallery 360.

Now I want a Twins visor (blue, with the red and white “TC” logo), and perhaps some sort of “612” gear. Can I get that anywhere? I saw a 612 bumper sticker at Gallery 360, but I’d rather have a hat or a t-shirt or something.

Eat the pink taco. Bwahaha!

This Chino Latino billboard cracks my shit up. This one’s in Uptown, right across from… Chino Latino. And the category we have designated for foodstuffs? “Eating Out.” Heh.
