There’s been a bald eagle chillin’ like a villian at Lake Harriet and people can’t help but stop and stare.
I hear it’s been there everyday for the last week, go check it.

Minnpost has a must read with the judges talking – Small-fee case explodes: Minnesota justices direct judicial anger at Pawlenty and Legislature

the most remarkable piece of the package is raucous, angry concurrence by Justice Paul Anderson. Anderson sides with Magnuson, which makes his the deciding vote in favor of the deal. The license fee is necessary for the maintenance of “a civilized society,” Anderson says. But the price he exacts for his vote is a fierce lecture about how government ought to function. He ratifies the deal, then denounces it as necessitated by the “unfortunate impasse” between Gov. Tim Pawlenty and the DFL Legislature. But “unfortunate impasse” is pale language compared to what happens when Anderson gets warmed up.

Seriously, read the entire article and the links.

Derusha has a great read on What is and what isn’t terrorism. Did you know there are 109 kinds?

Twitter is a wonderful way to meet new people and often times those people can become quite close in the Social Media realm but wouldn’t it be nice to meet those people in real life? That is what MSPTweetup was organized to be, a regular event for Twitter folks in the Twin Cities to mix and mingle at a local establishment to put faces to usernames.

The Thursday, November 14th MSPTweetup was a big success, held at the Bulldog Northeast and sponsored by IZEA’s Sponsored Tweets there was a huge turnout enjoying the tater tots and conversation.

Planned by Kareem Ahmed & David Dellanave it was one of the largest MSPTweetups. And then it happened. The special surprise guest arrived. Dallas Mavericks owner and twitterer Mark Cuban arrived at the MSPTweetup.

Twitpic of @kazeemy & @mcuban @bulldogne #msptweetup

Ahmed had met Cuban previously and had invited him via Twitter and Cuban, in town for the Mavericks vs Timberwolves game accepted and surprised everyone in attendance.

Unfortunately I had left the event just minutes earlier. Had I been driving I would have turned around to go back but as I was already on the LRT home I could not.

From the Twitter Stream of the event Mr. Cuban was very friendly discussing business with some, just shaking hands with others.

@snyd043 & @mcuban @bulldogne #msptweetup

To have the opportunity to mix & mingle with Mark Cuban at the MSPTweetup was certainly an unexepected bonus of an already tremendous event. How often do you get the chance to pick the brain of a billionaire entrepreneur over beer?

If you are interested in attending future Tweetups, follow @msptweetup on Twitter, or visit their website for more information. You never know who may show up!

…In another indication of his state of mind, Petters also expressed fear that two investors who stood to lose up to $19 million, and who he claimed had mob connections, would try to kill him.

When I was in high school, I worked for Petters Warehouse Direct. For some reason it always felt like some giant, semi-organized garage sale. At one point in time I met Petters at a company function. He informed me that “You kids should be skipping out on the big name gum, and using Breath Blasters”. I found out that Breath Blasters were re-packaged Certs that we sold in the stores. 3 days later another employee and I made a sketch comedy bit about how Petters would use these Breath Blasters to take over the world. I guess we were visionaries-far ahead of our time. Breath Blasters, ponzi scheme, hey, it’s all the same.

Last night Jason DeRusha asked Good Question: Should Uninformed Voters Stay Home?

It’s a constant message on Election Day: get out and vote. It’s generally accepted that the more voters, the better. The higher turnout, the better. But what about people who admit they don’t know anything about the issues or the candidates in a given race? Is an uninformed vote better than not voting at all?

A number of people chimed in with thoughtful response and many took the safe road saying they abstain if they are uninformed.

Now it’s honest time, at some point in our voting life we’ve all voted for someone that we didn’t know much about.

Hey, we’re all friends here, I’m not judging.

@howwastheshow ponied up some truth that inspired this post:

@justacoolcat @DeRushaJ’s GQ tonight was awesome. Seriously thought about it today. Was only informed on 50% of ballot, but voted on 75%.

When I was 18 I was known for picking based on a funny name or using the infinite-naughty-possibility-generator the write-in box. ( I know write-in isn’t exactly an uninformed vote, but for all practical purposes it’s a wasteful vote)

So here’s my question:

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post’s poll.

There’s a new political party in MN the New Dignity Party

Here’s what they have to say,

This party is developing a new package of ideas that may help America at a critical point in our history. Born on the 4th of July in 2009, we declare our own independence from the bipartisan political regime.

In particular:

(1) We aspire to establish a new paradigm in the politics of identity.
(2) We would rein in powers assumed by local governments without the consent of the governed.
(3) We lament the decline of honest journalism as big media companies shape the news along certain lines.

Specifically:

(1) We like white people (and people of other races, too).
(2) We don’t like local governments meddling in their residents’ personal affairs.
(3) And you better shape up, too, Star Tribune!

VIA Chuckumentary

It seems to me their first specific point is really really weird and probably offensive to everyone under the age of 50. Also, they claim to create a new “paradigm”? Ugh.

What do you think?

Sadly I missed Q.O.S.’s Halloween party, but it sounds like everyone had a blast.

I did take the kids out (one was a ladybug and the other a goldfish, the wife was Little Bo Peep) and then we handed out candy.

Also, I made a scary 30 second video with my cameraphone to terrify the wife.

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing.

Between groups of kids arriving the Ladybug and I would walk around the street in front of my house. I’d drag my leg through the leaves and clink the machete against the road. Several kids stuttered out a “ya..ya…You’re really scary” as they they tenatively held out their bag for candy.

What did you do for Halloween? Was your costume horrifying?

Just the other day I was contemplating, much like the above image, about bringing on even more authors.

Unlike the beautiful image above I wasn’t enjoying the serene beauty of our lakes, I was being tossed out of a car at 50mph for not paying a debt in a timely fashion. ( Grandmas, what are you going to do right? )

That’s when it hit me, the road. Just kidding, it was the car behind us. No really, I think it was Bob Dylan on a motorscooter.

I digress.

What I really mean to say is more awesome writers!

Jon will be covering local outdoors, biking, and whatever else catches his interest.

Meghan likes to write about music and set things on fire. She can actually burn down a rock pile with just an ice cube and flynt.

And last to the party will be, Kara who will be starting mid-November and is going to take up the helm of fashion and intrigue . You may know Kara from MnDaily where she’s been rocking the fashion scene.

Please treat the new authors right, they are friendly, but armed and extremely dangerous.

.

I don’t even know what the hell a nerdy macaw is, but apparently Blue Sky Studios, Fox Animation and director Carlos Saldanha all think that Neil Patrick Harris would be a great representation of one when he (or his voice rather) stars in “Rio”, which follows the adventures of a nerdy macaw who lights out from his small-town Minnesota cage for the exotic Summer Olympic city of Rio de Janeiro. (via ABCNews)

I was curious after reading this much earlier today on the most credible news website known to man, Perez Hilton. (Nope, not linking that one.) What exactly is a nerdy macaw and why’s it gotta be from Minnesota? Google images says this is a nerdy macaw:

That’s just a creepy guy with no shirt on getting ready to make out with a bird. I don’t know if I’d call that nerdy or not. When I added “Minnesota” to my search, I wound up on this link. I’ll save you the trouble – it’s a “quality gay dating site”. Google Images has failed me.

The movie is also rumored to star Anne Hathaway (the hottie from The Devil Wears Prada or the beard that was married to Jake Gyllenhal’s character in Brokeback Mountain) and Rodrigo Santoro (who plays one of the dudes that get buried alive in “Lost” and has apparently been called the Brazilian Tom Cruise…). Fox hasn’t confirmed the aforementioned casting, but Fox doesn’t do a lot of things right anyway.
