Biomass Incinerator coming to Seward?
Peter Fleck has the round up. All the elements of good neighborhood drama. Potential resistance from residents, weighing long term energy consumption impact vs local air quality impact, and some city council cahoots for good measure.
There is a public meeting hosted by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) on Dec. 13 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2730 E. 31st St., 6-8:30 p.m. MPCA will give information about and receive public comment on a draft air permit for Kandiyohi Development’s proposed Midtown Eco Energy MEE) project.

This is becoming a hot issue in the area. I chatted with a City Council aide from the ward where that is being proposed (Ward 9). I was told that City Council has little power right now as the rules and laws regarding this are at the state level, not city. That’s not to say they’re not going to do what they can, though.
Good story at MPR.
Great story on the Dec 13 public meeting at TC Daily Planet. Looks like the residents of the neighborhood turned out in force. Best quote from the article: “‘Once they build this plant, it’s like that fake commercial for the Bass-O-Matic blender,’ she told the audience. ‘They start throwing in beautiful fresh fruit and it looks really good to the audience. Then they throw in a hideous live bass.’”
