Acadia Cafe to Relocate to Cedar-Riverside
My first reaction was Nooooooooooooooooo! The move would have meant that the Acadia was that much further away from me. But, since I don’t actually live in Uptown anymore, the difference is trivial.
It’s just a move, not a change in ownership.
The Acadia is/was one of the best things about that little part of town. I hear that used to be a pretty rough corner. Had I been inclined to purchase a newly built condo at Franklin and Nicollet, I’d have been a regular for sure.
The Acadia has served as a Fringe Festival venue in the past. They won’t be having the split space that they currently enjoy, but Cedar-Riverside is a hotbed of Fringe activity. Hopefully they’ll rejoin the line up.

Should be a great place to go before/after shows at the 400 Bar. Sad to see them leave their old location though.
That was the last redeeming part of that neighborhood and one of the very few reasons I was sad to leave.
Now I wish something similar would move into my new neighborhood. (as awesome as The Strip Club is going to be, it’s not going to be a place to grab a turkey chipotle sandwich and a beer while messing on the intarwebz.)
There were rumors for some time that Acadia’s time there was short. Good to see them doing relo rather than just closing.
Now if Hard Times would just open back up…
What SUCKS is that Tuesday Night Music Series for Improvisers and Experimentation does not have a home at the new space. I was there last month and the promoter told me they are still shopping for a space for January dates.
Erica, you’re right, that corner is/was pretty rough, as was the whole neighborhood (I lived there for about 3 years on 1st Ave). It’s getting better with the new development going on, but there seems to be a shortage of new retail spaces. I find it interesting that they’re moving since the people living in those condos would certainly love hanging there, rather than the Starbucks cattycorner from it. It’s a shame, because there really aren’t any other bars in that little neighbohood within safe walking distance…well, at least when I lived there.
i live about 2 blocks away (moved here in may from nyc) and i go anywhere BUT there for entertainment & drinks/eats. the staff are incredibly lame and everything is way, way overpriced. the wine-glasses are actually sherry glasses and — thus — ridiculously small. i will walk down to the spyhouse or bike to bryant lake bowl every time. hate to disagree, but that place just has bad juju. whatever glory it once had is now certainly former.
I liked the current location so some sadness but damn, it’s in walking distance from my house now PLUS it’s in a place of really good historical karma where the New Riverside Cafe rocked things for years. Since NRC, several food venues have come and gone (including a Birchwood Cafe stab at the corner).
I’m really excited. Humphrey Institute is also within spitting distance and will make for a steady clientèle.
