Dare to be Different

I guess this was big news last week…well at least VH1’s Best Week Ever covered the comeback of the early 90’s “Hammerpants with Zebra stripes on them.”

Turns out a local Minneapolis (Little Canada) company purchased the rights and are mass-producing the “bad fad” just in time for the holidays.

Right now the online store only shows four $30 pants patterns (including “limited edition” Green Bay Packers print), but there are sections for shirts, hats, shorts and “other,” which we can only hope to assume will be Viking’s themed tchtochkes for my mother-in-law to put in my stocking this year.

Speaking of football, according to Wikipedia, Zubaz designed the uniforms of several Arena Football League teams in the early 1990’s, including the Tampa Bay Storm and the now-defunct New Orleans Night. However, these designs were considered outlandish and were soon replaced. Haha.

But it’s not a joke to football fans. On eBay right now, there’s a pair of unworn Chicago Bears Zubaz going for $42 bucks showing 11 bidders and 2 hours left. Wowsers, I suppose fanatics are fanatics.

I remember a kid in school who wore Zubaz every day of the week. Now there was a real winner…

My dad still wears his around the house. He’ll be so happy to hear they are back.

Young boys should not be wearing Zubaz.

my uncle has Wild Zubaz…btw Zubuz has always been a minnesota company, I think.

Their website sucks though, I agree.

I’m sure they’re perfectly comfy pants. They’re just a little hard on the eyes. I suppose I couldn’t fault someone for wearing them around the house.

I proudly still own 2 pair of Zubaz knock-offs than an aunt made me for Christmas so many years ago–one in a Vikings pattern, the other a weird black-with-hot-pink-outline. Couldn’t be happier that I now have more ammo the next time my wife tells me to burn them.
