Tapes ‘n Tapes on Letterman tonight

TapesNTapes-wide.jpgWhoa - three posts in a row!

The Ed Sullivan Theater has always provided a unique venue for musical acts to garner national exposure, and tonight is no different as Minneapolis locals Tapes ‘n Tapes (myspace) test their infectious indie rock chops with their national TV debut on the Late Show with David Letterman. The performance coincides with today’s re-release of TnT’s debut album, “The Loon,” on the famed XL Recordings label.

From Ross’ PiPress blurb today:

“Sometime around March, I don’t think you could have told me anything that would blow my mind any more than anything already had,” said lead singer Josh Grier during an interview earlier this month. “And we’re on drive mode for the next five months.”

With the local scene just now catching on to the group’s national popularity, I’m sure there will be more than a few local sets tuned to WCCO tonight. Writing about TnT’s show at First Ave last, Andrea over at MinneapolitanMusic said, “…you would have thought the Beatles had just taken the stage and that we were thrown back to 1964 - it’s been a while since I have heard so many high shrieks.” Ed Sullivan would be pumped.

Post-Letterman, the group heads out on tour with The Futureheads, although they’re skipping the Minneapolis’ Varsity Theater date on Sunday, July 30 to hit the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.

Having never heard one song of theirs, I suppose I ought to watch so I can find out what all the hype is about.
