Lynx First Home Game

Lynx logoI went and saw the Lynx play their first home game, a preseason matchup vs the Seattle Storm. Lynx won 84-75.

The WNBA changed the shot clock from 30 seconds to 24 this year. The scores so far have definitely been higher. Although it could just be because it’s the beginning of the season and nobody’s playing any real defense yet. But the tempo of this game was noticeably quick.

Because the Lynx were less then stellar last season, they found themselves with the number one pick in this season’s draft. They chose Seimone Augustus from LSU, and damn, she is good. She put in 26 effortless points.

The game was at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion. I’d never been in there before. It is teeny tiny. I can’t believe the Gopher women used to play there all the time. Attendance for the game was only about 1500. I think about half of the people in there were season ticket holders. They had all the chairbacks reserved, while the rest of us were on the opposite side of the floor on the benches. Which was fine because I only paid $15 to sit third row, mid-court.

So it was a great start to the season. The official home opener is next Tuesday, at 7:30 at the Target Center, against the Connecticut Sun (Lindsay Whalen’s team).
