Exercise and Eating Right
For some exercise, now that it’s stupid-cold after dark (when I get home from work), I joined a friend for some mall walking at the Mall of Gamorrah this week. We kept a good clip going and did over 4 miles in an hour. The people watching was good, and except for the product-sponsored karoake going on in the rotunda, it was fairly painless.
As for eating right, I heard last night that there is supposedly a St. Louis Park location selected for the opening of a new Trader Joe’s in town. I haven’t found any recent buzz about this - does anyone know more? I love Trader Joe’s, and would like to see it get a Twin Cities location. [EDIT: I did learn from another friend that there are plans for Trader Joe’s to be part of the SLP business construction project that’s finishing up in 2006-07.
All this exercising and eating right is part of my efforts to lose weight and get more fit. We’re heading into the winter months when short daylight hours make exercising outside of a gym difficult, and chunky sweaters can hide a multitude of sins. When it’s cold I want to hibernate and thicken my blubber layer before the first hard freeze of winter strikes. This season I hope to just wear more layers instead of carrying an extra blubber layer.

Funny, as I’m reading this, it’s 55 and sunny out right now. I’m about to go to Cedar Lake to run.
Funny, I’m working right now, and can’t go for a walk! =P
I’m one of those weirdos that prefers things a bit on the dark and cool side for running. The rest of the year I make an effort to run in the evening. This time of year it’s pretty much dark when I’m not at work, so it’s not an issue.
The hardest part is reminding myself that once I get out and moving for 5-10 minutes it won’t feel cold. Those first couple of minutes out in the wind and cold are a bitch. :)

True dat. *shiver*
There IS going to be a Trader Joes hopefully opening next year. I work at World Market and they will be direct competition for us, so we have been keeping up with the progress of their arrival.
Ooh, I loves me some World Market, too. I’ve only been to Trader Joe’s once. That spot in SLP is not far from where I live, but I don’t think I’ll still be here by the time the Trader Joe’s opens.
I’m constantly snooping around for news on Trader Joe’s coming here. St. Louis Park is saying it’ll be at Excelsior and Grand next spring - http://www.stlouispark.org/Publications/BLSummer05.pdf.
