Looking for a Good Mechanic
I’m in the market for a mechanic. I’ve been going to Autopia. The experience has been nothing but pleasant. Except when it comes time to pay. I don’t know much about this kind of stuff, but I get the impression they’re a little spendy. While they’re pretty conveniently located from where I am, I’d be willing to drive a bit for a bargain.
A friend of mine recommends East Hennepin Auto Service, and I’ve also I heard about Sage’s in Columbia Heights. So I’ll definitely check those two places out.
Anybody have a recommendation?

To get a bargain, you might have to go entirely out of the metro area (say, Buffalo).
When I lived in the Wedge/Uptown/Whittier/whatever-we’re-calling-it-now I went to Uptown Auto Care. Their prices were reasonable, and I was never intimidated there since the front desk person is a very nice lady.
I have always gone to Pillsbury Automotive in Bloomington. An old friend of the family owrks there and he is very good. They don’t charge you for anything they don’t have too. VERY reasonable pricing.
Hamline Autobody did some nice work on my car. I’d recommend them for any body work.
I got my brakes fixed at Starr Automotive a few years back and they gave a price that was about one-third what Midas wanted to charge me. They are on E Lake Street around 40th.
Parents Auto on 36th & Lyndale S. It’s on the Southwest corner (not to be confused with the jiffy lube-type place on the Northwest corner)
Parents is awesome, they’re honest and don’t rip you off. They’ve even cut me a few deals.
I HIGHLY recommend them.
Marie at 58th Street Service on 58th and Nicolett is fair and honest. My husband and his family have been customers since her dad, Tom, ran the shop years ago. (He still works there but she runs the show now.) She is low priced, no nonsense, and doesn’t hesitate to tell you if the work you scheduled doesn’t need to be done or could be done cheaper elsewhere. Call ahead to ask her when she can get you in. She gets pretty busy sometimes, but the time I didn’t wait and went to Midas instead, I spent twice as much as she would have charged me. Next time I’ll wait!
