i used to go to the target pharmacy at the downtown minneapolis location. when you have a new prescription filled there, you always talk to the pharmacist. only downside was the pharmacy could become very crowded. it was a better pharmacy than where i go now, where the people behind the desk seem less knowledgeable and less willing to answer my questions.

I’ve been using the Super Target Pharmacy in Fridley. Until last spring, it wasn’t too bad. a couple of refills weren’t ready when they were supposed to be, (once because they were short of the med), but that happens.

Starting this spring, however, I’ve had:

A refill that was supposed to be 3 months supply (even said so on the label) was only 30 days.

My address somehow has gotten screwed up in their records.

An Rx renewal took 5 days and 2 call backs from my Doctor’s office to get filled.

On top of that, they still screwed it up. The Rx was supposed to have had 3 refills for the year, but they only had a single refill, which I discovered when I picked up the first refill. I had to have my Doctor write another Rx for the other two refills for the rest of the year.

Luckily, I’ve got a number of options. Within less than a mile I have a Cub, WalMart, and Walgreen’s. Within 2 miles there are also a CVS, two Targets, and 3 Fairview pharmacies (although only one of those is open later than 5:30).

We usually end up at Walgreen’s simply because their pharmacy is open 24 hours. Still, I guess I always look to a drug store first. It’s never even really occurred to me to go to Target to use the pharmacy.

I’ve had one prescription filled at Target and am never going back because of this conversation:

Pharmacy tech: Do you have any questions for the pharmacist?

Emily: Yes, I do.

Pharmacy tech: (signs) Well he’s BUSY, you’ll have to wait.

Emily: Ok, I’ll wait.

(ten minutes pass)

Pharmacy tech: Look, the pharmacist is busy! Just call if you have a reaction.

Umm . . . yeah.

I’ve always had good luck with Target’s pharmacy. However, when I was in Boston I used Walgreens. One experience there inspired me to write a Walgreens-to-English dictionary, the first entry being:

20 Minutes – n. – About a goddamn hour, with an attitude.

At least you weren’t standing there waiting for your prescription to be filled and being yelled at by the employees for their own sloth and incompetence.

I go to Walgreen’s. They’re not bad and I like the drive up window. Target gets too much of my money already.
