I was at an event hosted by Starwood Hotels (the company that owns W) last week, and all the sales reps from around the country in town for the event were staying there before it opened.

I haven't gotten a chance to see it yet, but one woman I met there told me it was one of the nicest Starwood properties she'd ever been in, and that's saying quite a bit considering some of the places they own (Westin, W, Meridien.)

Erica: it's the Hotel Minneapolis. Its sign is this neat retro-fifties thing with a sort of sea foam blue-green and an awesome font. They were giving away freebies at Music and Movies in the Park on Monday. I got a card for some free flatbread!

I saw a blurb on the news last night (before I shut it off in disgust) and it looked like the tower was all lit up, in a different way than it usually is.

We might have to "staycation" there some weekend. I hate that word, but I'm not opposed to the concept.

Apparently there's also a new Doubletree open downtown, kitty-corner from Kieran's, in an old bank building? According to some visiting co-workers who are staying there, it just opened last week.
