The Live From Main Street [1] folks are in town for the National Conference on Media Reform [2] and will also be hosting this event on Sunday:

We’re excited to invite you to Live From Main Street Minneapolis (LiveFromMainStreet.org) – the first in a series of televised town hall events designed to shake-up boring horse race election coverage and highlight what’s really at stake this election season.

Please join us for the premiere event at the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis at 2pm June 8 for: Getting Heard this Election Season: What Stands Between the Public and a True Story?

Inspired by the work of everyday activists and local independent media, Live From Main Street’s first town hall will explore what it takes to get heard in the era of big media and diminished civil liberties.

Hosted by Laura Flanders, author of Blue Grit and host of Free Speech TV [3]’s Grit TV and KFAI and Insight News’s Al McFarlane [4].

Featuring:

Amy Goodman, Host of Democracy Now! [5]
John Nichols, Washington Correspondent for The Nation [6]
Malkia Cyril, Director of The Center for Media Justice [7]
Colleen Rowley [8], FBI Whistle Blower and 2006 Congressional Candidate
Joel Kramer [9], Founder of The Minneapolis Post [sic]
Paul Schmelzer [10], Managing Editor of Minnesota Monitor [11]
Marlina Gonzalez, Program Director of the Unconvention [12] and Intermedia Arts [13]

WHEN: Sunday June 8, 2pm (doors open at 1pm)
WHERE: The Woman’s Club of Minneapolis [14], 410 Oak Grove Street, Downtown Minneapolis
FREE OF CHARGE and open to the public. Seating is limited so please arrive early -doors open at 1pm.

RSVPs are now closed, so you’ll have to be there by 1:00 on Sunday for a shot at seats (which are still available).

I saw John Nichols speak on Thursday at the Journalism That Matters [15] conference. Dude knows his stuff and presents it very well. He’s also one of the founders of Free Press [16], which puts on the NCMR.

(BTW, the Minnesota Monitor will become the Minnesota Independent [17] on Monday.)
