Whew!

Do you like trains, state parks, and fiscal responsibility and balanced budgets?

Then have I got something for you!

Gov. Tim Pawlenty and legislative leaders announced a comprehensive budget deal Sunday afternoon. The plan erases a nearly $1 billion budget deficit, provides tax relief to homeowners and veterans, and borrows for several projects. Lawmakers will waste no time passing the plan because it’s the final day for the Legislature to act.

Perhaps it was needlessly dramatic and childish. Perhaps it took too long and the legislature could have gotten some other important/interesting things done with the time spent on this deal (although, actually, perhaps not). But you know what? I don’t really care at this point. I’m just thrilled there won’t be a special session. Which, actually, feels pretty special to me.

The Guv and the Leg sure like bonds. Guess it’s easy to pass the buck like that. I’d say that’s the true American way these days.

Yeah, they sure do love their bonding. But, I suppose it’s better than foregoing thousands of needed capital investment projects.
