The Guilty Pleasures of Spring

Apricot Tree in BloomI decree it to be Spring!

Yo Spring, Happy Saturday.  ( <— seesmic video. )

Sure, I don’t have any actual power to decree a season, but that’s never stopped me in the past.

So, despite the recent weather’s attempt to bring us down, spring has triumphed. It’s time for the migrations to begin.

That’s right, I’m talking about the return of garage salers.

We drove to the coffee shop this morning and there are garage sale signs popping up faster than tulips. I’ll bet you’ve seen them too. I’ll bet you may have even stopped.

Come on people, don’t be shy, it’s a guilty pleasure we all share. Let’s talk garage sale.

Why is it a "guilty" pleasure??? Recycling rocks, and so do garage sales. I haven’t seen any around me yet, so clearly I need to hoof it over to your ‘hood!

For me it always feels a little weird going to a stangers house, paging through their stiff, and then trying to talk them down to five dollars fora couple of things that would add up to $8.

Though this year i’s been weird. We bought a hammock and hammock stand for 50 bucks. The asking price? $50 and they wouldn’t budge. Also, two blankets one marked for $5 and one for $3 and the guy was like "I’ll tell you what, I’ll give them to you for $8."

    "… but they’re priced at $8."

"Well, someone must have switched the price tags. They should be $5 each."

I love garage sales. They just don’t make home furnishings like they used to (real metal, real wood, durable fabric, wiring you can play with, etc.). Our son still has no idea many of his favorite outfits were once another little boy’s favorite outfits. Can’t wait to get out there.

Erica – I find it interesting that the seesmic link int his post was added to your comments like a trackback. Feature?

Greg – It’s amazing the amount of great furniture that can still be found at garage sales. I also love the one’s that sell plants. It’s a great way to get hostas and I still have a huge rosemary plant growing in the kitchen I bought last year.

Yeah. I think WordPress calls "trackbacks" between posts in your own blog "pingbacks" or something like that.
