Another reason not to drive

As if the price of gas wasn’t enough to piss you off at the gas station, you will soon get to hear why it’s all the Democrats’ fault:

The House GOP caucus plans to buy advertising at locations with gas pump video monitors. The message will criticize Democrats for supporting a transportation funding plan that raises Minnesota’s gas tax.

According to Twin Cities Gas Prices Dot Com, gas prices in Minnesota are consistently below the national average. If the DFLers tacked an extra dollar per gallon, sure, let’s holler about it. But y’know what? The gas tax hadn’t gone up in something like 20 years. This is money we need to maintain our roads and bridges. Get over it.

I plan to avoid gas stations with TVs at the pump through November. As far as I know, pump TVs are only at Holiday stations. Has anyone seen them elsewhere?

TVs at the pump are only for sprawling suburban gas stations and their SUV driving patrons who spend 4 minutes filling up their polluting behemoths.

And those people are already throwing their votes away for the Repubs.

I’d rather cut all the bloated pork projects and the light rail subsidies, use that money to fund the roads and bridges all of us actually use, and leave the gas taxes where they are already.

Just because we’re not at California’s $4/gallon doesn’t mean our prices are satisfactory, and it aggravates me to no end hearing the local media cover high MN gas prices without referencing our legislature raising those prices for us.

The gas tax isn’t what’s funding the light rail. That’s what the 1/4 cent sales tax is for.

Oh I know, I would roll that sales tax into the road/bridge fund and let the light rail die if it can’t support itself.

Hmm. I guess I have never seen the distinction between government subsidy of roads and government subsidy of transit. But, on the other hand, the old Twin Cities Rapid Transit Company was profitable… until everyone started owning cars.

I hate those tv’s at gas stations, but there’s a little A&K near where I work that plays Mozart music on them.

Our gas prices should be lower than most of the nation as we’re close to Canada and we have our own refineries.

I’m not at all averse to having the amount of taxes and those who voted for them identified.
