LRT-le the Turtle

That’s not commentary on the speed of our one existing light rail line. That’s the first thing that popped into my brain when I read someone refers to the LRT as “Lurt”.

We can do better than that. In that Mpls Issues Forum thread, the top suggestions were SMART (St Paul-Minneapolis Area Rapid Transit) and TCRT (Twin Cities Rapid Transit, pronounced “tea cart”). I could swear I proposed TCART somewhere in the bowels of mnspeak, but I can’t find it now.

So, suggestions? I think existing proposals for individual lines are pretty solid, but we gotta have a generic name for the whole system. Because there will be a whole system… someday.

I thought of TCART (Twin Cities Area Rapid Transit) too! So I vote for that.

    F.A.R.T.

    For: Frozen-Area Rapid Transit.

Because: This area has the most strongly Scandinavian population of any major U.S. city, and "fart" in the Scandinavian languages means: "fast/faster!"
