Revamped Crime Updates from the City of Minneapolis

From DT Journal:

The service asks participants to specify their precincts and neighborhoods, provide contact information, and note any involvement with local groups such as a block club or National Night Out committee.

So now you get your crime alerts at the neighborhood level instead of at the precinct level. If you were already resceiving the updates, you’ll have to re-subscribe. The precinct/neighborhood map is available at that subscription link.

“After everyone has re-subscribed,” [Deputy Chief Rob] Allen wrote, “We will be able to determine which blocks in Minneapolis we will need to barnstorm for block leaders, crime prevention volunteers and general alert contacts.”

A good idea, but I don’t know if it’s safe to assume that all or even most people in such volunteer roles are signed up for the crime alerts to begin with. I’d be curious to see what this barnstorming plan looks like. Does the MPD have the resources to carry that out in the first place?

It’ll be interesting to see how many people actually re-subscribe.

I’d rather be able to get the information, perhaps for multiple precincts, with only an email address.
