Nothing’s changed there, at the I.D.S. bldg. It was the same way for me, 30 years ago, when I was in college. I was assembling a multimedia production for one of the U-of-M’s health-sciences areas, about aging. For a campus job I had, and also something to pad my portfolio. Needed a bunch of upbeat man-on-the-street shots of people of retirement age. I chose the I.D.S. Crystal Court because it always attracted people from all walks of life, and the lighting made for good photos, even for a not-very-skillful photographer like me. I did manage to get a bunch of nice shots, but then security stopped me, even though I was making sure to politely ask permission from each person I was photographing, rather than just lurking around taking candid shots.

Thanks for using my photo on your 2,000th post! There are more at manyhighways.com.

Anon, I wasn’t even taking photos of people, just the building itself! But, since it is private property, I begrudgingly admit that they do have a right to restrict photography. Oh well.

Hooray for 2,000! The next 2,000 will be even better (and faster to come, I’m sure)

Because of the War On Christmas, security is paramount at these strategic locations. If the photos of, say, the new Baby-Jesus-Reflecting Radar Absorptive Materials used to make the star on top of the tree should happen to fall into the wrong hands, Christmas could fall victim to a sneak attack next year. We cannot allow this to happen.
