Vote Now for Twin Cities Grinch of the Year

Thanks for all the Twin Cities Grinch of the Year nominations! Here’s the poll. Vote away! One vote per computer, so if you feel strongly, vote from work and from home.

Voting will remain open through Thursday, December 27. We’ll announce the winner on Friday, December 28.

After the jump, a brief summary of the nominees.

The Nominees

Carol Molnau is the Lieutenant Governor and Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Transportation. According to the Guv’s website, back in her days in the Minnesota House of Representatives, “she focused on holding the line on taxes and government spending as well as transportation issues.” She seems to have carried this with her into her role at MnDOT and so she is widely believed to be responsible for the collapse of the I-35W bridge over the Mississippi River.

Carl Pohlad is one of Minnesota’s richest people and, among other things, the owner of the Minnesota Twins. His refusal to pony up more for the new Twins Stadium (thus shifting the burden to the taxpayer) infuriates many. Particularly the taxpayers of Hennepin County. Plus, anyone that rich just has to be evil.

Twins stadium haters are mad because our elected officials happily agreed to let us pay up for the new Twins Stadium without our consent. The tax burden lays upon those who live and spend their dollars in Hennepin County. Except that the 0.15% tax rate works out to something rather miniscule like $30/person/year. And the Metrodome sucks for baseball.

Thom Pham beaters attacked the popular restaurateur in an alley as he was leaving Azia at 3:45am. This was a couple months after Tom himself chased down some folks that tried to dine and dash at Temple only to show up later at Azia (dumbasses, he owns both).

Katherine Kersten is the conservative columnist lending “balance” to the Star Tribune’s op-ed page. I googled her name. The first two results are Star Tribune pages, and the next three pages are sites talking about how awful she is (and not all of them are blogs). I hope she doesn’t engage in that particular method of ego-stroking much. This is still my favorite Katherine Kersten-related quote.
