Common Roots’ Saturday Profits go to Flood Relief
Common Roots Cafe is donating 100% of their proceeds this Saturday from 6pm to midnight to the Sow the Seeds Fund which supports sustainable farmers from Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Common Roots is just one of many restaurants participating in Saturday’s One Big Night Out fundraiser. Common roots will have fair-trade wine tasting from 7-9pm with Etica Fair Trade wine, a Minnesota vegetable raffle, a cake raffle, dinner specials. There will also be raffle and free tasting of Peace Coffee from 11:30am-1:30pm.
You can also donate to Sow the Seeds online.
Jim already talked about the bagels. I’ve found their food offerings to be mostly pretty good. I’ve tried a few different sandwiches and breakfast items. Really liked the grilled cheese. Disappointed with the roast beef. That is not shaved beef. That is hunks of meat and they were kind of tough. Made it physically difficult to eat. There is always a very tempting array of baked goods on the counter and the lemon bars call to me every time. Impulse purchase much? $5 for a four-beer flight is pretty good.
They have free wi-fi. The staff has been super friendly every time I’ve visited. The space is a lot more pleasant to sit in. If you ever went to Soba’s, you know it was kind of dark. Despite the high ceilings it felt closed in to me. Common Roots has opened up a little more space in the back and now there’s a nice little deck outside, too.
If you haven’t yet visited Common Roots, I suggest you give it a try (and Saturday night would be a great time to do so). Their commitment to the environment, locally grown food, and the community is obvious and impressive.

I’ll second a recommendation for Common Roots. We had a stellar lox breakfast there not that long ago. Simple and lovely. Mmmm. Damn, now I’m a little hungry just thinking about it.
We just had the lox plate for breakfast last weekend.
Okay, I was in the ‘hood for lunch and went and had the chicken pesto salad sandwich (at the recommendation of the cutie behind the counter, over the corn fritter with dijon butter, which I will try next time). DELISH. The bagel chips are awesome, too.
BTW, folks, all the sandwiches are grilled, panini style.
