Greenway Assault and Coalition’s Response

A biker was recently attacked on the Midtown Greenway. The Midtown Greenway Coalition has put up a great response to the incident. Here’s what it does well:

  1. It explains what happened.
  2. It assesses the danger to other users and allays fears where possible.
  3. It relays some practical safety advice.
  4. It explains what they’ll do to help prevent it from happening in the future.
  5. It explains how you as a member of the community and a user of the Greenway can help.

Not to mention it gives the happy community warm fuzzy.

There’s a lot more good info on their website. Subscribe to the MGC’s e-news for monthly updates.

OMG scary. I never feel safe on the greenway after dark, for the shear fact that there’s less bikers there even.

This freaks me out a little as I would ordinarily have no problem being out on the Greenway at that time of night.

I know people get all het up about the news reporting the race of alleged criminals and victims and whatnot. And this obviously isn’t a news outlet, nor have I bothered to look for the story in a news outlet. But I wonder what the race is of the gang members and of the biker. I wonder because I have this perhaps false sense of security in the fact that I’m a minority and perhaps that makes me safer from crime perpetrated by other minorities.
