Bike Trail Closures
Just got this email from the City of Minneapolis:
As of today, May 21st, the Cedar Lake Trail is scheduled to be closed at the downtown entrance/exit ramp. The trail closure is expected to last for approximately 2 months, and is related to the construction of a parking structure for the new Twins stadium. A signed detour route has been posted, using the Spring Lake Trail exit. The Dunwoody exit will also remain open during the closure.
Meanwhile, the Light Rail Trail between 26th Street and the Midtown Greenway remains closed, due to the construction of the Midtown Greenway Bridge over Hiawatha Avenue. This closure is expected to last through the fall season of this year.
For further information, including maps of each trail closure, please visit the bicycle detour page, at http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/bicycles/detour.asp.
I also saw a sign about an upcoming closure on the Hutchinson Spur through St Louis Park. Plan accordingly!

What the hell? A bridge over 55? That’s so.. wow.. what a waste.
There’s so much in Minneapolis that is in far worse condition that would be a lot cheaper to fix… like the West River Road trail
That bridge has been in the works for a while.
Yeah, it would be cheaper to fix the West River Road, but I don’t think this investment in infrastructure is unreasonable. I don’t think they’re going to not repave West River Road.
Dave, I believe W River Road’s trail is scheduled for repaving in 2009-2010. The Longfellow Community’s Environment and Transportation meeting has been trying to find ways to move up that date since the trail is in such poor shape, but as of now, that’s the dealio.
I believe our former Rep. Sabo secured the 55 bridge’s funding. Not all pork goes to building bridges in Alaska.
