Farmer’s market?

I’m mostly thinking about the Farmer’s market today because as I was driving this morning, the radio personality said, 24 for the high.

huhwhat? Yah, it’s April 6th. I had a cute pink Easter dress for Sunday… denied. Break out the mittens again.

Anyway, I’m waxing sentimental for warmer weather, so I’ve been thinking a bit about the weekend when I can take out the Schwinn Cruiser and pedal my way down to my local farmer’s market. The big Minneapolis Farmer’s Market doesn’t have and 2007 season info on their website… which mostly just made me sad, that its not quite spring yet.

I was also introduced last fall to the farmer’s market by the new Guthrie (over in the mill district)… but I don’t know the name, nor website, if one exists, for it. Anyone?

Additionally, it’s a semi-goal of mine to make it over to the St. Paul farmer’s market this year. Nothing on their website as far as spring/summer hours… though I just learned something new: St Paul’s farmer’s market is open all winter (saturdays, 9 to noon). Hrm, she ponders…

I know there’s farmer’s markets over in Nordeast (it used to be sponsored by the co-op, though I don’t know what’s going on this year…)

Anyone have the skinny on when fresh, locally-grown or created goods will be out in the open-air and warm sunshine I’m pining for?

Heh, I went through a similar discussion on the MySpace Minneapolians page not too long ago…

Presuming you mean the Mpls Farmers’ Market…

Keep in mind the Nicollet Mall action is only between 5th and 10th Sts. in downtown Minneapolis through the end of October; Thursdays 6 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

The 2006 season started on April 22nd, 7 days a week, from 6 a.m. to 1p.m. until December 24th (for the 312 East Lyndale Ave N location).

The Nicollet Mall market opened April 27th in 2006 (the last Thursday of the month). They’re running from 6:00am -6:00pm each Thursday, 8-3pm Saturdays. I’m betting we can expect this year to start on the 26th of April!

Pure speculation because at the time they haven’t updated the webpage yet, but there’s a bit more info for ya.

I met Francisco (who sells some very fine pico de gallo) over the Easter weekend, and he tells me they will be selling their wares at the market starting the last weekend of this month. So, from that, I can only guess it opens on or before 4/28….

I have a question, wondering what exactly is nedded to start something like a flower/farmer market. Do I need to have some type of license to purchase flowers and sell them? Any information would be helpful.

Lori - I think your best bet is to contact the farmer’s market directly; I know that for the Mpls ones you do need a license of some kind…

This looks like a good starting point.
