Opened.

Like a much-anticipated birthday present, our very own Twins opened the 2007 season at the metrodome yesterday.

7-4 final. Read on for details.

I had the pleasure of attending opening day with my significant other and my daughter. I have to say, if you are going to take a 4-year-old to a baseball game and introduce her to baseball culture, opening day is the time to do it. Palpable excitement the entire evening gave the dome an almost human quality… as if the grounds and building themselves were holding their breaths in anticipation.

That, and the Dome was sold out. Nothing says you are part of a giant, hot-dog-consuming, beer-drinking community than 48,000 Minnesotans collectively screaming “Johan!”

That first familiar bat crack — the one that immediately sounds like a long drive to the big blue wall — was magic, and it caught even my preschooler’s attention as the whole metrodome rise to pay homage to Morneau’s first home run of the year (in the 2nd inning. It’s going to be a good season.)

And then we screamed. And screamed. And my daughter learned how to berate an ump and sing take me out to the ballgame.

I thought perhaps my excitement for baseball would wane ever-so-slightly once it got here.
Nah.

It’s going to be an amazing season.

Sounds like a great game! Only thing better would be a free windup Mini-Mauer! June 17, baby!

I hate the Twins a little more every time I make a purchase in Hennepin County.

I almost missed the back to back homers on my way to get food. Thankfully the wife was ahead of me and walking sorta slow…
