GB Leighton rocks

I had the pleasure of watching GB Leighton perform at the Minnesota Music Cafe in St. Paul on Saturday night. The place was packed and the energy was high. GB Leighton delivered an excellent performance, sometimes hopping down from the stage and mingling with the people on the packed dance floor as he sang. The crowd really got into it, and one of those virtuous cycles of energy developed, spiraling up and up. The band performed a mix of rock tunes and a few Johnny Cash songs, which really worked well.

This was a first visit to the Minnesota Music Cafe for me, and I have to add the venue to my list of places to like. It was large enough to hold a good-sized crowd, but still fairly intimate. The sight lines in the main music space are good, with no large pillars obstructing the view of the stage, and the sound quality was good.

I went to the MMC not too long ago for the first time, too. I liked it, although it was hard to really get a feel because the place was pretty much dead (it was a Sunday evening with a lot of snow).

I feel like that GB Leighton guy is everywhere. And has been around forever. I saw him play once at a corporate function, although I confess I wasn’t paying him that much attention. Seemed like a decent show.
