Twin Cities Breakfast: Best of 2006
The folks at the Twin Cities Breakfast Club Blog analyze their best and worst breakfast places reviewed in 2006.
Day by Day Cafe gets the ultimate thumbs up. The Copper Dome Restuarant (which I’ve never even heard of) gets the big thumbs down.
It’s kind of hard to really fuck up breakfast. I can’t think of too many places where I’ve had a particularly bad breakfast. That said, I’m a fan of the cachapas at Maria’s and the nutella banana crepe at Barbette.
What else should I try?

Check out the Saturday Scramble at the Birchwood Cafe in Seward . . . on Saturdays.
The Day by Day can sometimes be a real pain in the ass if you hit it at the wrong time and have to wait for a half hour and then get placed into a cramped booth with your 5 friends… or if you forget that they don’t take credit cards (or has that changed now?).
I like the Birchwood too…
Hot Plate in SE minneapolis, for sure. Best breakfast I’ve ever had in minneapolis, hands down. Clean as a whip, low prices, short but wide menu, quality ingrediants, awesome atmosphere. Just took my parents there and they loved it.
I’ll add that I like Turtle Bread, though more for the atmosphere (at 48th & Chicago) than because the breakfast is that great. I did have the best grilled cheese sandwich of my life there.
no hell’s kitchen?
By the title I thought you were referring to TwinCitiesBreakfast.com. Guess not.
Anyway, Day by Day is great — but in response to Ed, I don’t think I’ve ever sat in a booth; the only time I go there is during the summer for the excellent tree-shaded patio . . .
oh, and here’s TwinCitiesBreakfast.com’s “best of” for places we reviewed this year: Best of 2006
“Best Spot Outside 494/694 Loop” — Heh!
I’ve not even heard of a lot of those places on your list, Peter. I clearly need to eat more breakfast.
“Heh!” Clearly you’ve been spending too much time on MNSpeak ;)
. . . and we all need to eat more breakfast!
Well, you aren’t going to find best spot outside of the 3-digit highway loop at Twin Cities Breakfast Club Blog (we’re barely even willing to drive to St. Paul), but thanks for the link.
And I have been pulling for a trip to Hell’s Kitchen, but my family just doesn’t like to wait for a table. We tried to go there once, and the line was out the door.
