Midnight release comic book
My favourite comic shop in the Twin Cities, the Source Comics and Games is going to open at midnight tonight (12:01 am, 7 February 2007) for a comic book, the first time a comic has had a midnight release. Joining movies, DVDs, books, video games, and operating systems, now a comic book is going to bring a throng of bleary-eyed fans to the Source well after all sane people should be in bed.
And what comic is it that is causing such a hubbub, bub? The premier issue of Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born, published by Marvel Comics. Stephen King’s magnum opus is getting the graphic storytelling (hoity-toity term for comic books) treatment, and to usher it in in style, it’s getting the midnight release.
The comic looks really well done, although I’ve never read the series, so I don’t have a huge interest in it. I’m going more to support the Source, and also for the 20% off coupon I’ll be getting towards a later purchase.

I take it that that is midnight _tonight_, right?
You didn’t mention, and the Source’s website is awful, as usual.
Yes, it is tonight, sorry about that. The post has been updated.
There were about 35 people there for the release and a WCCO TV crew taking pictures. Got my copy, very impressive.
I saw Jason’s post, and suggested that our overnight photographer Joel go out and get some video. Glad he made it!
I just watched the item on wcco.com and it looked really well done. I was glad that it didn’t fall into the trap that so many similar types of items do, in stereotyping comic book readers as real life versions of the Simpsons “Comic Book Store guy”. Cheers, guys, and thanks, Jason!

Thank you for the heads up!
