Minnesota is Healthiest State, Again

Minnesota has claimed the title of healthiest state in the US for four straight years now, according to “United Health Foundation, an independent, not-for-profit foundation funded by the health care company UnitedHealth Group.” United Health Group, Inc. is based in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

From the report:

“Minnesota’s strengths include ranking first for a low rate of cardiovascular deaths, a low premature death rate and a low percentage of uninsured population. It is also in the top five states with a low percentage of children in poverty, a low infant mortality rate, a low occupational fatalities rate, a low rate of motor vehicle deaths and a high rate of high school graduation.”

Yeah, I’m feeling pretty healthy today. How ’bout you?

I had seen some other blog comment on how New Hampshire was the third healthiest state, and I had meant to look it up and see where Minnesota fell on the list, and then here it is.

    We are so awesome.

As I ran the Reindeer Run Saturday, a friend pointed out that we are supposed to be a healthy state but you don’t always realize it until you see all the crazy people doing fun runs in freezing temperatures.

I realize my reaction to that news yesterday was sour grapes. Jealousy, I guess. While I’m a native to CA, Minneapolis was one of my fave places to live–and get my degree. But since I have to use these sour grapes in a productive manner, I hereby toss them in a glass which I raise in toast to you all–Hail Minnesota! Now if you could just send some of your smarts in good health to our state…
