Did you?

I Voted

Was your polling place busy? Did you use the touchscreen? (I filled mine out by hand and then verified that the touchscreen read it correctly.) Anybody have problems with same day registration?

I was voter #406 at the VFW hall at 29th/Lyndale this morning at about 10:45. Steady flow of people coming through, but it didn’t seem particularly busy.

Voting in Eden Prairie at 8:30 a.m. was cake. No lines. Only half of the workers were senior citizens who had trouble going through the motions due to senility (much better than last year). We didn’t have those fancy machines, but filling in the bubbles always feels good. I even asked for two extra “I Voted” stickers, so I could put one on my baby and another on my stuffed penguin in my office at work. Anyone know who has the government’s contract for sticker printing? Tell me it’s not Halliburton…

I was voter #465 at the Chandler Retirement Community in St. Anthony. It was busy. While I was waiting in line, one women kept filling out the ballot wrong. She was working on filling out her third ballot when I left. When she handed the bad ballots to the election judges, they just put them under the table, perhaps they are discarding them later? Let’s hope. Also, there were several voter stations with more than one person in it. Is this legal? One woman motioned for her friend to join her at the voting station and loudly asked what the friend thought about particular candidates.

Voting in Robbinsdale was a piece of cake; I spent more time walking to and from the polling place than I did voting. I didn’t have to wait at all, and I was happy to see so many people my age (27) voting.

I voted at the Oak Grove Towers in Minneapolis. The majority of voters in line with me were young, and there did seem to be some confusion about what forms of ID were acceptable for same-day registration. I’m still kicking myself for forgetting my cheat-sheet of candidates’ names and positions. Next year, I’m voting absentee so I can research candidates on the ballot while I’m voting.
