Cedar Lake Trail construction delayed
By the stinkin’ new Twins stadium, which is planned to be built smackdab in the middle of where the trail was going to go through.
Every time I ride up the Kenilworth into downtown, I look at that tired ass sign saying how close we are to the completion of the trail link to the river. That sign has been up for at least a few years.
They’ve already put off the trail construction for a year. Now they’re back to the drawing board, trying to figure out how the trail can be integrated into the stadium plan. I mean, it’s cool that if I wanted to ride my bike to a Twins game, I could do so without having to go up Hennepin or Lyndale and snake around downtown. And I have faith that it’ll all be fine and dandy once it’s all built. But this Cedar Lake Trail project has dragged on even longer than the Lake of the Isles refurbishing. And the Cedar Lake Trail project actually has funding. Come on already!

Grrr. Lately I’m feeling like biking in Minneapolis inspires wild swings in my confidence with city planning. I’ll be biking along Hennepin, thinking how great that little bike lane is, when somedude turns left soooo narrowly missing me, I wonder I could’ve been so blithe. This trail project has inspired similar love/hate sentiments with me, too.
