Loosies

1. I first heard this term “loosie” last week on an episode of Chappelle’s Show.
2. Before then I did not even know that you could buy individual cigarettes.
3. Now you can’t buy them anymore in St. Paul.

The [St. Paul City Council] cites the lack of health warning labels on single cigs and says their cheapness makes them attractive to minors and the poor.

I’ll buy the argument about a lack of labeling. But the fact that they’re attractive to minors and the poor? If the store is doing its job, then minors shouldn’t have any more access to loosies than to full packs. As for the poor, that’s a choice they make. Loosies exist because there is (or was, anyway) a market demand.
