Viva Pedro at the Lagoon
Even lacking a designated repertory theater in town any more, right now there is an exciting film event going on in the Twin Cities at the Lagoon Theater. A retrospective of eight films by Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar are being screened over the next couple of weeks, starting with “Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios“, currently playing. I’m heading over to the theater after work to see this one, and I hope to make it to all eight before the end of the series. Fortunately, they’re making it a little bit easier by not running them all concurrently, but staggering them over the weeks. Three more films start Friday.
All this is a run up to his new film being released in the U.S. this holiday season. So if you’ve enjoyed seeing some of the movie on video, now’s your chance to see them on the big screen. Well, semi-big screen, considering the Lagoon. But if everything goes through, they’ll be increasing the size of the theater, and hopefully the screens will increase in size, not just in number.
