Minneapolis Logo Change?

CityLogo_1.jpgOur city’s sailboat logo may become a thing of the past according to the Minneapolis Observer:

“The sailboat is somewhat outdated,” City Council president Barbara Johnson told the Ways and Means Committee on Monday. She’s pushing the council to work with the Greater Minneapolis Convention and Visitors Association (GMCVA) on a new image for the city.

The GMCVA is bankrolling the study with private dollars.

City coordinator Steven Bosacker explained that the city had not budgeted any money for changing its logo, but that certain city officials had been talking with GMCVA officials, who have raised “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in private money to study new ways to brand the city. “There’s been a collective conversation happening about whether it was time to make the switch,” he admitted.

So, what should out new logo be? I vote for the Prince symbol or a snowplow.

The Prince symbol. Bwahaha! I kinda like it.

Actually, I think the one discarded state quarter design with the river, some trees, and a bridge/riverfront scene would be appropriate.

I think a couple bloody chaulk outlines and police sillouettes with question marks in them - would make a great logo for Minneapolis.

It’s to bad that a commercial company like GMCVA gets to pick the logo. I am sure there tons of people who could think of a decent logo. Maybe metblogs should sponsor a better MPLS logo contest.

What does the GMCVA do for MPLS? From the looks of it’s website it seems like a self-serving marketing company that offers visitors information based upon who pays to get in their books and on their website.

That’s just a guess because they have no clear mission statement on their website, just prices I am sure any small local business can afford.

OMG! Living with me has finally rubbed off on you. OF COURSE the new symbol for MPLS should be the Prince symbol, lol
