Nala Pak v. Udupi Cafe
Well for Katie’s birthday (a week or so ago) we decided Nala Pak (formerly Udupi Cafe) would be a good place to celebrate. Nala Pak has had an interesting history. I think it was burned down at one point and then re-opened in it’s current location. And most recently this winter it was shut-down, I believe, for immigration issues. The Indian-dude who was the one good server they had is gone, I think.
Anyway, it has new management, and new staff, but the food is just as good. Here’s our reviews. If you’ve got a lot of friends, be sure to get the batura. The service level has increased quite a bit and that’s very re-assuring. It really was the achilles heal of this place.

Is the “Indian-dude” you refer to the older waiter, who appeared to have cataracts? The food is just as good, but he is sorely missed, at least by me . . . he was a good representation of Udupi vibe.
Kris, yep, sorry I meant to say “older Indian-dude.” But yes, it totally felt like he was totally straight out of a restaurant in S. India.
