Just because I’m from Iowa…

What is the deal with Minnesotans thinking that Iowan’s are all farming idiots, that talk funny and don’t know how to drive in the city?

I’ve been up here in the Twin Cities for over 2 years now… and I still hear the same damn jokes and rants…

Give me (us) a break… Seriously, we produce some of the HOTTEST females in the midwest. That should be enough to let us pass.

    Oh, look at all of that Cyclone gear! As a former Iowan (and ISU attendee) myself, I finally realized that UofMN Gopher fans are going to hate Iowans initially b/c of the continual Big 10 UofI Hawkeyes rivalry. You have to explain to them that Cyclone fans also hate the Hawkeyes, so we’re all basically the same. It’s the only way to appease these hateful Minnesota niceans.

    *groan*

    ALL the youngish engineers at my company went to ISU. Except for me. Some director who’s no longer with the company went there, so he started recruiting them all. I couldn’t even get the engineering job I have now (not being a Cyclone) until he ended up getting axed.

    So I’m a little bitter towards all things Iowa State. Nothing personal.

    Is this picture from some sort of alumni association thing? All the kids were talking about it, but I don’t know if any of them actually went.

    ISU has one of the top engineering schools in the country (I was enrolled in it for a year before I realized engineering is math and science and departed for journalism school at Drake).

    It is a traditional rivalry. People revel in cliches with stereotypes they can make jokes about. That’s why racist and ethnic jokes also persist. People are naturally xenophobic– identify an outgroup and vilify them .. haha, funny. :|

    People I meet from Iowa seem pretty cool, and I think the jokes are dumb.

    I didn’t go to Iowa State.. I went to University of Northern Iowa…

    but yeah, there are some big rivalries… :: shrugs ::

    I’m a nice Iowa guy, no matter what they tell you!
