Stormy Weather

storm.jpgI got caught in the middle of today’s severe weather. The hail hit just as I was crossing the border of Minneapolis and St. Paul on Energy Park Drive and some of it was BIG. The rain was coming down so fast that a chunk of Franklin near Bloomington Avenue had some standing water and Portland Avenue near Lake Street was covered with standing water. The National Weather Service says I was right there in the thick of it:

“LARGE HAIL WAS REPORTED IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS WITHIN THE COUNTY FROM THIS STORM. HAIL OF UP TO GOLF BALL SIZE WAS REPORTED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA NEAR THE COUNTY LINE WITH RAMSEY COUNTY.”

I took this picture at Energy Park Drive and Elm near the University of Minnesota. Did anyone else encounter a car-denting rush hour?

Didn’t catch any hail, but Lyndale between Uptown and Downtown was flooded pretty badly. Couldn’t even see the curb in a lot of places.

I usually take the LRT after work, and then a bus or a cab. I was lucky today…got a drop home.

I stayed at work late to avoid driving in the hail downtown. When I finally got home, the storm had passed but I had no power in the house. The power eventually came back on this morning at about 3am, which is faboo, because now I don’t have to shower in the dark:D
