More on the Wireless Minneapolis Pilot Test

This information got posted to the comments:

For logging into the SE wireless pilot site simply go to that area and connect to the wireless. The network is open and utilizes a captive portal technology which means connect and open a browser window. The first time you try to browse out it will take you to a different page that is specific to the minneapolis wireless. From there you will see a login box on the left and just below that a signup link. Click on the signup link and fill out the information and then you will be able to login and browse the internet. During the 60 day test phase this login will be free and the account will be removed from the system automatically at the end of the trial period. If you have any questions about the wireless or need some assistance there is a link on that first page to chat a support representative.

I would imagine the process will work the same for the North pilot site (site maps here). Sounds like it’s worth a drive by.

The City’s map for the south area pilot is no longer accurate. US Internet (testing company in the south) decided to move the boundaries a bit. I have a narrative description of the new area here and hope to have a new map from USI soon.

Make sure you have all the proper protections in place before playing with open wireless!
