Katherine Gerdes is the latest local reality tv star.

I’m not a Project Runway fan, and I don’t even get Bravo, so I won’t be watching. But if I did get Bravo, I might be inclined to tune in on account of Katherine Gerdes.

I heard Allison Kaplan talking about this on FM 107 yesterday afternoon, and then caught this blurb on LJ. She went to Arts High School, went off to the Rhode Island School of Design, and now works for Target (that’s for Target, to be distinguished from working at Target).

She’s got some entrepreneurial roots. Her (step?)dad runs Hell’s Kitchen (she lives in a studio right behind the restaurant) and her mom is the founder of Creative Kidstuff. Apparently her personal style is at odds with the stuff she designs.

It’s also kind of interesting the way the Target fashion department (or whatever they call it) has evolved, such that being a Target designer is a desired way to start off your fashion career.

I’m watching it this year, but only because my current crush talks about it non-stop. In a ny case, I was excited a local girl would be on it!

Heh. I did contract software development *for* Target until a couple of months ago and it’s funny how often I found myself making that distinction.

I didn’t at first, until I discovered people were asking me about stocking shelves or working at the customer service desk and clearly thought I was doing something very different from what I do.

As for the show itself, I won’t be watching as it combines fashion and reality TV, the combination of which, I’m pretty sure, will result in spontaneous implosion of my brain.

Project Runway is a fantastic show, local contestants or not! I’m excited to see what happens this season.
