Riding the Megabus
MPR’s Annie Baxter rode the Megabus* on a trip to Chicago. She says it was about worth what she paid for it, which ain’t much (she paid $40, it’s less if you book farther in advance). Sounds like it’s all about managing your expectations. Aside from the breakdown on the side of the highway, the too-loud movies and the gum in the seat sound relatively minor.
Chuck Olsen gave Megabus a similarly mediocre review. Although I don’t think “managing my expectations” will accommodate the driver falling asleep at the wheel.
Anybody else ridden it?
Sounds like if I need to get to Chicago in a pinch I’ll take it, but with the caveat that I needn’t be in a hurry to get there or get back.
*When I originally typed that, I typed “road” instead of “rode.” Heh.

A friend of mine who lives in Chicago has taken the Megabus back here to the Cities a couple times and once to Ohio and says, “I highly recommend it, especially for the money. I love that booking online weeds out the transients and whatnot. Comfy seats, a mix of elderly and college students…not bad at all.”
Beats flying, if you ask me.
I love that booking online weeds out the transients and whatnot. — That’s a good point. I didn’t even think about that. It’s no Greyhound ride, I’m sure.
Beats flying, if you ask me. — Cost-wise, that’s for damn sure. The price of a flight to Chicago is outrageous. I think it’s ridiculous to pay more than $100 to fly somewhere that I can drive to within a (short) day. Now, if you’re crunched for time, then it’s a different story. But that’s always the case when flying.
