Ridiculous Advertising on StarTribune.com
WTF, Denny Hecker? Not only was this obnoxious background on display, a video — with audio — automatically started to play as well. I rarely visit the Strib’s homepage. I go through individual articles, and I was subscribing to some of the RSS feeds for a while before I decided I couldn’t handle the volume. Stuff like this makes me most definitely not want to visit startribune.com at all. That’s seriously annoying.
UPDATE: It’s all about the Vikings now. Slightly less obnoxious. Maybe because of the better contrast between the news part and the purple background. And there’s no auto-starting video and audio.
UPDATE #2: More on this at MPR.
Damn that is annoying and ugly.
In spite of all their problems, I find the Pi-Press-Patch a lot less annoying. I also generally surf with plug-ins disabled and my speakers off. Otherwise life is just too annoying.
It was enough to make me go elsewhere for my news this weekend.
I bet the STrib made a killing on that shit, though.
I hate to geek out on you, but you really have to try Firefox + AdBlock extension + FlashBlock extension. This trio will make your surfing experience quieter and more peaceful.
