Taste of Minnesota books great local bands

largecolortaste.jpgMinnesota’s largest free summer festival, the Taste of Minnesota, kicks off this week and runs June 30-July 4 on St. Paul’s Harriet Island Regional Park.

Situated directly across the Mississippi River from the St. Paul skyline, countless food vendors (mmmm…5-8 Grill jucy lucy..), the World Trade Center Traveling Memorial, music and fireworks.

The fireworks begin each night of the festival around 10:15 p.m., and the final night (Independence Day) more than 15,000 fireworks making the show the longest and largest fireworks display in the state.

But yes, I really just want to tell you about the bands…

In addition to rock veterans like Alice Cooper, Davy Jones, Supertramp and (what outdoor fair/festival could be complete without) Herman’s Hermits, you can catch some stellar local groups, including Vicious Vicious, Kubla Khan, The Hopefuls, CatchPenny, Soul Asylum, Dan Israel, Melismatics, Cloud Cult, G.B. Leighton and more. AND IT’S FREE!

Is that this weekend already? I swear I can’t keep up in the summer. Pride, then the Taste, then Basilica Block Party, then Aquatennial. Bang bang bang. All in a row.

That G.B. Leighton guy is everywhere.
