Serenity for Charity

Can't Stop the Serenity
Tonight’s showing of Serenity at the Riverview (at 9:30) is a benefit for Equality Now. Equality Now “works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world through the mobilization of public pressure.” There are 47 different charity screenings around the world on June 22, 23, and 24.

Why this? Why now? MN Firefly (local fans of Joss Whedon, Serenity, and Firefly) explains:

June 23rd marks the 1 year anniversary of the final advance screening of Serenity and is also Firefly creator Joss Whedon’s birthday. How do thousands of fans of a cancelled TV series and box office disappointment celebrate this date? We raise funds for an international women’s/human rights organization, that’s how!

So if you had planned to see the movie anyway, tonight would be a good night to see it.
