Guthrie Theater Opens this Weekend with Huge Party

guthrietheater.jpg

The relocated, 3X bigger, new and improved Guthrie Theater opens this weekend, and there’s been a huge amount of local and national press around the opeining and architecture (including LA Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Christian Science Monitor, Bloomberg, etc. etc.)

MPR has a nice audio feature here (real). The Great Gatsby will be the first official performance - kicking off July 15.

But you know me. I’m always curious about the party and tunes.

Saturday night is a $500/person formal, but Sunday, June 25 is the public celebration from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. (yes, 2 a.m. on a Sunday) with fireworks, puppets and live music performances throughout the day, including The Brass Messengers, VocalEssence Chorus and Ensemble Singers, Peter Himmelman, The Steeles, Heiruspecs, P.O.S. and Hornheads.

Full schedule here.
