That City Pages article looks a little too familiar….
I posted this bit on Swing Stock Monday afternoon. I had actually seen that item on gridskipper two months ago, but only just posted it here, mainly because Swing Stock doesn’t take place until July. Lo and behold, City Pages’ Culture To Go has an item on… you guessed it… Swing Stock! Posted Wednesday afternoon.
I try to give attribution when I borrow stuff. Even if it’s an item from KSTP or the Strib (or the City Pages!) or something totally ubiquitous that I could easily have surfed on into myself. If I saw it somewhere else first, I’ll say so. That’s just right proper blogging etiquette.* If City Pages is gonna jump on the blogging bandwagon, they ought to practice it.
I know Molly Priesmeyer didn’t just randomly happen across a freaking two-month-old AOL article on a relatively obscure nudist party up in the sticks.
Quit stealing my shit.
*Except for Kottke’s links. Everybody steals Kottke’s links. He’s from Minnesota, don’tcha know?

You should send her an email. That happened to me one or two times on MNSpeak, too. I’d post something and then a little later it was up on CP.
Since Molly’s out of the office, and since this is probably my fault, I thought I should respond.
Here’s what happened in the case of the Swingstock post: My girlfriend sent me info about the event, mentioning that she came across it on Metroblogging Twin Cities. (She also sent the official site, which I’ve linked on my blog for years.) I didn’t open the links, but forwarded all this to Molly, possibly without crediting Metroblogging–I don’t know, I’ve since deleted the emails.
I agree with you about blog hat-tip etiquette. I don’t agree that failing to hat-tip is the equivalent of stealing, but whatever: It’s not good, and it has happened to us MANY TIMES over the years (by the way, City Pages has hosted blogs since early 2003, so we’re hardly jumping on any bandwagon). MNSpeak did it to me at least once; I sent an email to the author in response, and no harm done. Anyway, it’s irritiating every time.
The subject of Swingstock isn’t new to City Pages; both Diablo Cody and I have brought it up at meetings over the years. But as you guessed, your item brought it to my mind again during a slow week, which is enough to merit a hat tip. So I regard what happened as a mistake, probably unintentional.
In that spirit, however, please let us know in the future when something like this happens, via email or in the comments space. And Taylor, please do the same. It’s not like we’re anonymous or inaccessible. And there’s always the chance that a coincidence is just that.

FWIW, I had intended to send Molly an email, and then got lazy about it. So that makes me just as bad, I suppose. Thanks for speaking up, Pete.
