St. Paul’s Best Kept Live Music Secret
Caught this Pulse article yesterday about the Hat Trick Lounge in downtown St. Paul, and since I used to live across the street and hang out there a lot, thought I’d share my perspective.
For those of you who don’t venture to downtown St. Paul to get your music fix, the Hat Trick books some fun local/regional acts of all genres. It definitely has that local bar feel, drinks are inexpensive, the food is good, and it’s a great little venue.
Robin and Larry — who book the music acts for the bar — are in their late 50s and 60s but think the music they book transcends age and goes beyond generational trends. While there is risk to not focusing on an age group like other venues their size, I think they’ve succeeded in creating an earthy, friendly, music-centric atmosphere for St. Paul urbanoids to explore.
Tonight check out long time Hat Trick blues group George Bedford and the Extraordinaires and Saturday is the Dee Miller Band with LA and the Timekeepers opening.
