Racial Wealth Gap talk at Arise! Bookstore
Rose Brewer, professor of African American Studies at the University of Minnesota, will be speaking about her new book, The Color of Wealth: The Story Behind the U.S. Racial Divide. Prof. Brewer will discuss the lasting impact of slavery on black American families, how the government and discrimination have perpetuated the wealth gap, and what all this means for all American families.
The book carries an endorsement from Howard Zinn, if that tells you anything. I expect/hope this talk will address how things that appear to be racial issues are also very much class issues, and how those two things have come to be linked together. Professor Brewer and her book are a part of United for a Fair Economy’s Racial Wealth Divide Project.
This event is part of Arise’s Summer Series, featuring a different event every Thursday night. Check their calendar for more events.
Thanks to Madeleine at Arise! for the heads up.
